Week 5

ImageI didn’t forget to do a square last week, I promise.  I was just quite busy and didn’t have time to blog about it.  This is a square from Edie Eckman’s Beyond the Square: Crochet Motifs.  I love, love, love this book. I highly recommend it if you want to venture, beyond the square.  Anyways, for this square I used a H/8/5.00mm hook and some of my stash yarn.

I am really enjoying doing this project.  It gives me the opportunity to try new square and to use up some of my scrap yarn I have laying about.  If you are doing a similar project, I would love to see. So, feel free to leave a link to your blog in the comments.

Week 4

ImageOne of my goals this year was to begin learning Tunisian crochet.  I recently purchased a J/10mm afghan hook and Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Tunisian Crochet by Kim Guzman and set out to learn.  My 52 week project was the perfect excuse to give it a try (as if I needed an excuse.)  After a few attempts of learning the foundation row, I finally suceeded and I was off.

For this square I used:

J/10mm afghan hook

Vanna’s Choice in Terracotta

My pattern:

Chain 18 with afghan hook

Tunisian Simple Crochet for 14 rows

Changing to H hook, single crochet around placing 3 single crochets in each corner.  Fasten off.

This square is definitely going to need to be blocked.

Week 3

Week 3

The pattern I used this week is called Cool Flames Granny Square.

Just click above and it will open in a new window.

I used a J Hook and bits of yarn from my Gram Stash (leftover yarn that my Gram gave to me.  Most are partial skeins and I don’t have the names for them.)  It is a chocolatey brown and a minty green. I thought it was a nice combination.

Also visible, Sin in the Second City by Karen Abbott. I just started reading it and I am so far enjoying it.

Week 2

20130108_184112Week 2 and still going strong. This week’s pattern is from Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs by Edie Eckman.  If you don’t already own this book and are a fan of squares and triangles and circles and hexagons or if you are looking to try something new, I would highly recommend this book.  I have had loads of fun with it.  This is motif #120, I believe it is referred to as the basket weave, because it is actually made up of strips that are weaved together.  I’m not going to lie, this one gave me a bit of a fuss, but completely worth it in the end.

So, the yarns I used this week. Hmmm, I don’t really know.  My Gram gave we a lot of leftover yarn that she had from various projects she has done over the years.  The yellow was in a ball with no packaging.  It’s a light lemony yellow.  The variegated is from Sayelle. It is a white, pale yellow and pale green mix.   I used a J hook and was able to obtain a six inch square.

Week 1

granny week oneWeek one square done.

The pattern that I used was obtained from Ravelry.

Circled Granny Square-US Version

The yarns I used were:

Red Heart Super Saver Aruba Sea

Red Heart Super Saver Ocean

Red Heart Super Saver Lavendar

All were leftover bits that I have from other projects. You could use any color that you like.  I used a K hook and was able to get a six inch square out of this.
